Educational and Group Visits

Information on Educational and Group Visits at the Landguard Peninsula.

Educational Visits

The Landguard Peninsula offers a wide range of educational opportunities all in one place - unique experiences and hands-on learning outside of the classroom.

Landguard Fort is a fascinating view into the military history of the area from the 16-20th C. as coastal defence evolved to meet new threats. Whilst Felixstowe Museum has a range of exhibitions including artefacts relating to naval and aviation history and coastal forces, particularly HMS Beehive and the WWII base at Felixstowe Dock. Other exhibits reflect local social history from Roman times up to the present day.

The Landguard Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its high wildlife conservation value, such as its rare vegetated shingle habitat and botanical species including Stinking Goosefoot. Traces of the area's military history can also be found on the Reserve which makes for a fascinating contrast between the military architecture and unique habitats. A new area to learn more about wildlife and habitats onsite is now available adjacent to the Landguard Bungalow.

All of this is situated next to Britain's busiest container port where there is the John Bradfield Viewing Area - a great place to witness the operations of the Port of Felixstowe and the vast container ships arriving and departing that are key to international trade.
